Charges were filed Monday against a rural Shawano man accused of running a drug operation out of his home in the town of Waukechon.
Michael S. Jahnke, 50, is charged with felony counts of maintaining a drug trafficking place and the manufacture and delivery of marijuana. Each charge carries a maximum possible penalty of 3½ years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted.
Jahnke is also charged with a felony count of possession of a firearm by a felon, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine, as well as misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Shawano County authorities executed a search warrant at Jahnke’s residence Jan. 7 and seized evidence they said indicated an indoor growing operation, including more than a half-pound of a substance believed to be marijuana and several items considered to be drug paraphernalia.
Deputies also encountered what they believe to be a surveillance system at the residence, according to the sheriff’s department.
The warrant was issued after an ongoing investigation revealed that probable cause existed that drug activity was occurring at the residence, the sheriff’s department reported.
According to the criminal complaint, the sheriff’s department received an anonymous tip in November alleging growing, selling and use of marijuana at the residence.
A search of garbage from the residence found plant material that tested positive for marijuana and rolling papers, according to the complaint.
The complaint alleges that a growing operation was discovered in the basement of the residence.
Authorities also found a shotgun and two rifles, according to the complaint.
Jahnke is prohibited from possessing firearms as a result of a 1992 conviction for delivery of a controlled substance, according to court records.
Jahnke posted a $3,000 cash bond this week and is due back in court for an adjourned initial appearance on Monday.
