First Presbyterian Church of Shawano will host its 13th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration at 5:30 p.m. Monday with dinner, music and a program.
“This year we have a beautiful constellation of young voices sharing their wisdom and music,” Pastor Susan Phillips said.
Presenters will include Jaime Bodden, director of the Shawano-Menominee Counties Public Health Department, and Bowler native Dan Terrio.
Bodden first became passionate about social justice issues while volunteering as an undergrad at Marquette University. She has spent time in a small village in the Sahel of West Africa and worked on child malnutrition in Haiti.
Terrio is an nationally known educator, activist, speaker and community organizer for over 17 years. He is the youth development manager for the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. He was born and raised on the Stockbridge-Munsee Indian Reservation in Bowler and is a member of the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican Indians.
“We will also hear from kids and teens about their visions of justice in our neighborhood and the world,” Phillips said.
Menominee rapper Gary D and folksinger Skip Jones will provide the musical entertainment.
The meal includes soups from various countries and cultures.
