Lorraine J. Holtger

“Aunty” Lorraine J. Holtger, 89, Klondike, died peacefully Thursday evening, Aug. 15, 2013, at Community Memorial Hospital in Oconto Falls surrounded by her loving family. She was born Sept. 22, 1923, in Klondike to Roland and Emily (Burish) Holtger and was a very special “Aunty” to many. Lorraine attended Coleman public schools, graduating from high school with the Class of 1942. As a young girl, she worked as a clerk at Abby Ste. Marie’s grocery store and later at the Pound cleaners. In 1946 she became the bookkeeper for the family business, Holtger Brother’s Inc., until retiring in 1988. Over her lifetime, “Aunty” enjoyed cooking and baking for her large family, many friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed cookbook collecting, reading, sewing, and tending large vegetable and flower gardens. Because of her great memory and recall for family history, she loved visiting about “the good old days” and staying current on all the families activities. Lorraine was a member of the former St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church where she was once active in the altar society and taught second grade catechism for many years. Most recently, she found great pleasure in watching her birds and took much pride in feeding and caring for them. Survivors are one brother, Donald J. Holtger, Klondike; five nieces and nephews, Cathy (Dean) Radke, Donald G. (Jennifer) Holtger, Jeffrey (Kristal) Holtger, Gail (Brad) Korpi and Theresa (Brian) Schaut; 16 great-nieces and nephews; four great-great-nieces and nephews; and her special cat, Basil. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Kenneth G. Holtger; one sister-in-law, Janet Lee (Dieck) Holtger; and one niece, Mary Ellen Holtger-Meadke. Visitation and a rosary service were held Monday, Aug. 19, at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls. Visitation continued at the funeral home Tuesday, Aug. 20. Rite of Catholic Burial was held Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Joel Sember officiating. Burial followed in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery, Klondike.
