Copper Culture State Park is gearing up for another season. The Werrebroeck House/Copper Culture Museum will open on Saturday, May 24, and will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. seven days a week through Labor Day weekend.
Guides will show guests recent additions donated to the museum’s expanding copper artifact collection in the Copper Culture Room. Young archaeologists can unearth interesting artifacts in the Excavation Room and learn how to use primitive atlatls.
A number of new additions have been added to the park this spring. Last year, the Bird City group erected several bluebird houses around the park that have attracted colorful immigrants. Two new wood duck houses can be found by the river, and plans are being made for American Kestrel nesting boxes.
A new trail, the Bluebird Trail, has been added.
Cordula VanDenHeuvel, a coordinator of the group, has also announced a nature festival will take place June 21 in the park. It will feature Antigo’s raptor education presentation, a chainsaw carving demonstration, a bat program near the two newly installed bat houses, along with displays by other groups, including NEW Audubon, Earthhaven Museum, Monarch Watch, the Wisconsin Waterfowl Association and Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve. There will be children’s activities, vendors and food available.
