Group seeks help for handicap dock project

The Machickanee Advancement Association is seeking volunteers to serve on its board of directors. The association was formed in the 1960s with the goal of providing stewardship of the Machickanee Flowage and surrounding forest. The association has received a grant from ST Paper in Oconto Falls and, together with some county funds, proposes to construct a new handicap-accessible fishing dock. The dock will be a rolling T design and accommodate 10 wheelchairs or 10 to 15 fishermen. A request for bids has been mailed out, and results will be reported at the annual spring meeting. Before this effort comes to the planning stage, the association must hold an election of officers. Terms will be staggered to ensure continuity, with one officer serving just one year, another, two years, and a third, three years. The association also seeks a three-person board of directors and will need committee members willing to see the project through. If the association does not find enough interested people, the construction of the dock will be in doubt. The association’s annual meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 24, at the Stiles Town Hall, 5718 Watercrest Road, Lena. Individuals who are able to commit their time and talents are encouraged to attend.
