Serenity Gardens breaks ground

A 14-unit assisted living complex is scheduled to open in December at 146 N. Francis St., Gillett. Serenity Gardens LLC held its groundbreaking ceremony July 25 with co-owners Pat and Peggy Belongia, their daughter, Tonya Rosina, who will be the facility’s general manager, and Clayton Smith, who donated the land for the complex in memory of his late wife, Barb Smith. Barb dedicated her life to nursing, first in Illinois, then Oconto Falls and finally, Gillett. At Gillett Nursing Home, Barb served as director of nurses before retiring in 1997. She passed away in 2012. The residential care apartment complex will be state licensed and family owned and operated. “Serenity Gardens will be a great asset for the Gillett community,” Rosina said. “A big thank you to all the people who have helped get this project started and gave advice and encouragement. It was greatly appreciated.” To learn more about the facility and the services it offers, visit the Serenity Gardens booth at the Oconto County Fair from Aug. 14-17.
