Rough asphalt patches on Oconto Falls streets are scheduled to be warmed and reshaped to create a smoother surface in spots torn up by utility work this fall.
Drivers on Main Street experience a bumpy and shaky ride now.
Craig Schuh, engineer/manager from Ayres Associates, told the City Council on Dec. 9 that Jossart Brothers will do “everything in their power” to make the streets more passable. Jossart Brothers selected Asphalt Seal & Repair, of De Pere, to smooth the streets.
“The patching work that was done out there with the asphalt is not very good. I will admit that,” Schuh said. “They got caught with the weather conditions we had for the last month. They are fully aware of it.”
Jossart Brothers Inc. completed water main and sanitary sewer installation Dec. 5, in advance of state Highway 22 street reconstruction scheduled to start in the spring. Utility work was scheduled to be completed in November, before winter arrived, but an early arrival of cold weather caused the project to extend into December.
“It was a difficult project,” Schuh said.
He said the contractor faced the challenges of keeping access open to local businesses and streets open to traffic.
“I thought they did OK that way,” Schuh said.
Alderman Jay Kostreva said he was impressed with the construction crew.
“I compliment the guys who worked on my street, on Cedar and Chestnut,” he said. “They were there quite a while, and I only had to park off premises maybe three days the whole time, so I thought that was pretty good.”
With the late end to the construction process, some lawn restoration will be postponed until spring, Schuh said.
He said utility work relating to gas and electricity will start as soon as the frost is out of the ground in the spring.
