Eagles lose to undefeated Bonduel

Bonduel High School senior Jennifer Dowden was too much for Suring as the Eagles lost 70-23 Friday night in a nonconference matchup. Dowden scored 12 of her 21 points in the first half as undefeated Bonduel went ahead 42-10. “We didn’t play with confidence and we did not play the way that we can play,” Suring coach Shaun Wagner said. “They are a good team and are a superior team to us.” Suring (4-6, 3-3 Marinette & Oconto Conference) was led by senior guard Breanna Tienor, who scored a team-leading seven points, including a 3-pointer in the first period. Tienor said the Eagles knew they needed to stop the inside game of Bonduel, which has five players at least 5 feet, 10 inches tall. “We needed to keep them out of the paint, because their main scoring is in the paint,” Tienor said. “We needed to force them to the outside.” Coach Missy Dowden said the strategy for Bonduel (9-0, 4-0 Central Wisconsin-Eight) was to use its depth to tire out the Eagles. “I knew we had enough people to run and get them tired in the game,” she said. “We had two weeks off, so there was a lot of practice, so we didn’t know what they were going to do coming back from a long break.” Junior forward Taylor Weier was second among the eight Bonduel scorers with 12 points.
