Oconto Electric Cooperative installed three quilts for the Barn Quilts of Oconto County project in May. Barn quilt block No. 28 was installed at the Jagiello farm in Lena.
The history of the farm dates back to July 5, 1904, when James Borkovec Sr. purchased the original 80 acres from the Oconto Company Corp. He sold the land to his son, Frank Borkovec, who homesteaded it on April 11, 1905.
Frank had a daughter named Mildred Borkovec Jagiello, who was Ronald Jagiello’s mother. Grandpa Frank sold the farm directly to Ronald and Sharon Jagiello on Aug. 7, 1956. Improvements were made over the years, and more land was purchased.
Ron sold the farm to his sons, David and Kevin Jagiello, on Jan. 1, 2000. They operate under the name Jagiello Farms and Trucking LLC. They still milk cows and raise cash crops.
The barn quilt is displayed on the original barn built in 1920. The family calls this barn quilt block “Wheels” because it takes a lot of wheels to make the farm and trucking company a success.
