The Oconto Falls Friends of the Arts will present six shows in its 2015-2016 Fine Arts Series. This year marks the 14th season of the Fine Arts Series.
The season begins Saturday, Aug. 8, when Missoula Children’s Theatre presents “The Wiz of the West” at noon and 2:30 p.m. at the Falls Area Performing Arts Center. Fifty area children will help to retell the classic story “The Wizard of Oz,” but with a twist … or should we say, twister? Follow Tinhorn, Lionel, Scared Crow, Dotty and, of course, her little dog Mooch through a saga of Western adventure and personal discovery. Michael McGill conceived the story and wrote the words, music and lyrics.
Tickets are $13 for adults and $8 for students.
Daddy D Productions will participate in a Fine Arts Celebration and Raffle with its performance, “Top Ten Billboard & Country Hits,” at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at Romy’s Holiday Inn, Kelly Lake.
The show celebrates 40 years of the billboard and country charts from 1959-1999, with chart-topping songs made famous by Loretta Lynn, Lionel Richie, Johnny Cash, Whitney Houston and others. This event also includes dinner and the annual Fine Arts Celebration Fundraiser & Raffle including bucket raffles, a 50/50 raffle, ticket raffle and silent auction.
Tickets are $45 per person. Seating is limited, and tickets will be sold only in advance.
The Wisconsin Singers, featuring the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s most talented singers/dancers and instrumentalists, will perform a Broadway-caliber show at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Falls Area Performing Arts Center.
“Absolutely Classic!” is written by Robert Dietz (arranger for NBC’s “The Sing Off!”) and choreographed by Broadway professionals. The Wisconsin Singers’ 48th season show includes more than 60 songs from legends such as Tony Bennett and Michael Jackson and pop icons such as Justin Timberlake and One Direction, plus music from Broadway classics like “Miss Saigon,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and “Music Man.”
This event will also feature a special opening act performance by Encore!, singers and dancers who are students in grades 5-12 from the Oconto Falls area.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 students.
A dinner and show featuring Dorf Kapelle will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at Romy’s Holiday Inn, Kelly Lake. Dorf Kapelle, now in its 25th season, performs authentic folk music of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.
Tickets are $45. Seating is limited, and tickets will be sold in advance only.
“Live from Nashville,” a production direct from Music City that stars singers and dancers, Nashville musicians, dazzling staging and costumes, will be staged at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at the PAC. Twelve musicians, singers and dancers will take fiddling, fancy footwork and top-flight vocals on a trip through America’s country music.
