Harriet Hammond

Harriet Hammond, 85, of Green Bay, loving grandmother, mother, sister and friend, joined her husband, Doug Hammond, on Oct. 12, 2026.

Born at a time when women were told to get married and have children, Harriet took the time to go to college, even earning a master’s degree. After college, she even toured Europe. Upon her return, she put her education to work within the Milwaukee Public School System as a home economics teacher, making a shift later in her career to teach students with learning disabilities. In the 1960s, Harriet moved with a friend to California and continued her teaching and education, even attending summer school in Hawaii.

Today, we are all grateful for Harriet’s adventurous nature, as it was there she met Doug. They married Dec. 31, 1969, and returned with their children to Wisconsin in the 1980s. Without that encounter, she wouldn’t have the legacy that follows her — she was the beloved mother of Michelle and David, as well as her daughter-in-law Debra, and a loving grandmother to Hannah, Hunter (wife Maddie, son Emmett), and Alex (wife Hailey, children Kaizen and Olivia). She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Roger Raasch.

Harriet was preceded in death by her husband, Doug (after 42 years of marriage); her sisters, Arlene Rosner and Diane Pucel; and her parents, Evelyn Badora and David McClure.

Harriet was always quick with a smile and a story, and sometimes erred on the side of being just a little bit sassy. She was an absolute joy to those who got to share this life with her.

Michelle and David send a special thanks to the people of Unity Hospice and Caretta Senior Living for the kindness and care they showed to Harriet during her final months and transition.

A funeral for Harriet will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 340 S. Monroe St., Green Bay. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. on Oct. 22 with a service to follow immediately after. At a later date, she will be buried next to her husband in a private burial at First Baptist Cemetery in Pound.
