Katharine Jacob was sworn in Sept. 23 as the new Shawano County supervisor representing District 5.
She will complete the unexpired term of Charles Anderson, who resigned in August due to health concerns.
“I have recently moved up to Shawano as of May,” Jacob said. “I’m personally interested in local politics.”
Jacob has a master’s degree in literature. She previously worked in law firms with contract law and probate law.
Supervisors agreed with the appointment on a 26-0 vote.
The term runs through April 2028.
Supervisor Randy Mallmann asked again for background information and qualifications about candidates for vacancies.
“It would be nice to at least have a little more knowledge of what this person’s qualifications are. Then maybe we don’t have to ask as many questions during the meeting,” he said.
Board Chairman Tom Kautza said the only qualifications are that that the candidates live in the district they want to represent.
“I don’t have a questionnaire made up. Nobody has one,” he said.
Mallmann responded, “I just feel like everything else we vote on, it’s an agenda item. We’re given information about that. We have some information on what we’re voting on. When it comes to these, we have none.”
