Marie Violet Schulz passed away July 28, 2026, with the Lord by her side.
Marie was born March 13, 1941. She was the only child of Louis and Sophie Baumgartner. Marie may have been an only child, but their home was always open and welcome to whoever crossed their threshold whether it was family, neighbors or friends.
Marie attended elementary school at Logan School in Breed. Many stories were shared of the neighborhood kids being rounded up and taken to school in the sleigh behind a beloved team of horses. Marie grew up and later graduated from Suring High School in the class of 1959.
Marie married Lyle Thompson, and they had two children, Pamela and Jodi. They divorced in 1987.
As time marched on and lives changed, Marie was reunited with her high school sweetheart, Roger Schulz. They were united in marriage in November 1993. They shared the remaining years of their lives together.
For many years, Marie was a stay-at-home mom. Her days were filled with raising her children, teaching them the importance of faith, family and home. Her church family has always been important to her. For many years she was a Sunday School superintendent, Sunday School teacher and friend at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Breed.
She truly loved being instrumental in bringing children to Christ, to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus as their personal Savior. Marie was very active with many other aspects of church as well. She enjoyed working with the ladies in the kitchen for many events as well as being a member of the finance committee.
Marie’s compassion for others led her to be an in-home caregiver to several people over the years. She also worked a seasonal job at Friday Canning Company in Gillett and later at Elliott Glove Factory where she not only made gloves but many friendships as well.
Marie enjoyed many hobbies. She loved working in the garden. It was her quiet time, a time where she could reflect on her relationship with Jesus as well as enjoy the beautiful gifts of the flowers, berries and other bountiful blessings in her life.
Marie had a passion for photography. She loved to capture the beauty of nature around her and capture the blessings of her family as they grew up as well. Many of you know that she had quite a number of photographs. They became even more precious to her as she got older and could make albums of the many people that touched her life and of all the wonderful places that she had been. She often sat back and reflected on those pictures as she took many visits down memory lane and relived the magic of the times as they unfolded at each turn of the page.
Going through some of the beloved books that she had, Pam and Jodi found a very touching devotion that she had highlighted. We found it to be some words to share to leave with those of you to remember her by and the walk that she took with her Lord.

Be on the lookout for everything I have prepared for you: stunning scenery, bracing winds of adventure, cozy nooks for resting when you are weary, and much more. I am your Guide, as well as your Constant Companion. I know every step of the journey ahead of you, all the way to heaven.” Sarah Young

Marie is survived by her beloved husband, Roger Schulz; her daughters, Pamela (Wayne) Deering and Jodi (David) Fischer; grandchildren, Kimberly Deering, Joshua (Courtney) Deering, Christopher (McKenzie) Deering, Eric (Shawna) Fischer and Mark (Hannah) Fischer; great-grandchildren, Marshall Deering, Elijah and Maxwell Sipiorski, Zoey and Isla Mae Deering, and Eleanor Marie Fischer; Roger’s children, Lisa (Robert) Yakel, Kevin Schulz, Dale (Becky) Schulz, Pamela (Junior) Nelson and Julia (Marty) Timm; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special friends of the family, Kristina (Mark) Fenlon, Kirk (Margie) Bartnik and Debra (Brett) Zahn.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Christine Berndt, APNP, at Emplify Clinic in Suring. Christine took excellent care of Marie as she journeyed through the hills and valleys of her condition. Christine is also a dear and treasured friend of the family.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Breed from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Steven Stoll officiating. Marie will be interred at Breed Union Cemetery, Town of Breed.
