Grayson Engel and Ava Herrmann are the new youth spokespeople for Twig’s Beverage for the next year after being announced as the big winners of the Golden Boy and Girl Contest during Sun Drop Dayz on June 7.
This is the second year of the contest, where students in the fourth grade are invited to send essays about why they’d be the best representatives for Shawano’s signature soda pop and how they embody the family and community values that Twig’s holds so dear. The contest was started by social media influencer Jaime Lee, who also serves as a spokesmodel for the company.
Grayson is a student at Sacred Heart Catholic School who enjoys 4-H and farming. He shows pigs and cows during the Shawano County Fair. His parents are Jim and Jessica Engel.
“He is a kind, young man and loves to serve in his church,” Lee said. “He is a sweet family member, and we’re looking forward to getting to know him.”
Ava, a student with St. James Lutheran School, is also part of 4-H, where she raises rabbits. Reading, crafts and fashions are also a part of her life. Lee noted that she and Ava are going to make an appearance this summer at Embarrass Fun Days, as her parents, Rachel and Travis Herrmann, are from the area.
“Looking forward to working with and mentoring these two young people,” Lee said. “They won because of their sweetness, their kindness. They live by the Golden Rule, and they exemplify Twig’s hometown values.”
Grayson is proud to be taking on the mantle of Golden Boy.
“It feels really good to do it,” Grayson said. “It feels good because I accomplished something.”
Ava said she was looking forward to having fun and doing videos around town.
“I’m looking forward to showing off my community when we do the fun days,” Ava said.
During their reign, Grayson and Ava will learn from Lee about public service, communication skills and how to be a representative for a business. They also get a year’s supply of Sun Drop.
“I’m so excited to be following along to showcase their unique gifts and talents,” Lee said.
Lee would not say how many students entered this year’s contest, but she said that all the students who entered would be honored in some way.
“Maybe these two kids are winners. However, all these kids are winners in some way,” Lee said.lpulaski@newmedia-wi.com
