There are plenty of things to enjoy and great memories to be made at the fourth annual Birnamwood Polka Days on June 13-15. Events can be enjoyed outside in the park, and dancing underneath the tents, or inside Chet & Emil’s Ballroom. Either place has the hardwood dance floors that dancers need to trip the light fantastic.
Of course, the main attraction is the opportunity to enjoy polka music from eight bands over three days. Friday night under the tent will showcase The New Generation and The Mix from 4 p.m. until midnight. Inside Chet & Emil’s Ballroom, Cynor Classics will play from 5-9 p.m.
The crowning of the Polka Days royalty will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday under the main tent.
Contestants have been busy selling tickets for the 50/25/25 raffle, and the ones who sell the most will win the coveted titles of queen, princess and king.
New this year will be free dance lessons offered under the tent from noon until 1 p.m. Saturday for anyone wanting to learn how to Polish hop. Then you can test your newly acquired skills to the music of Zander’s Music Makers from 1-4 p.m. Inside the ballroom will be The Goodtime Dutchmen from 1-5 p.m. Also new is Tony Blazonczyk’s New Phase from Chicago. They will be with TNT under the tent from 4-11 p.m.
This event has something for everyone all weekend long with food trucks, raffles, children’s games, refreshments and Birnamwood Polka Days merchandise at the Birnamwood Park behind Chet & Emil’s.
A craft and vendor fair will be going on from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday on Wausau Street. There you will find 20 vendors with a variety of merchandise for sale such as art, jewelry, woodworking, apparel and skin care products.
Visitors can also shop all around Birnamwood as there is a communitywide rummage sale on Friday 7:30 a.m to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to noon.
Sunday morning begins with a church service under the tent at 9:30 a.m. provided by the Restoration Church Wittenberg Birnamwood, all are welcome. There are plenty of chairs provided but you might want to bring your own if you want a place to sit as you watch the parade at noon.
The Parade Grand Marshal this year is Bob Ecker, who also reigned as King in 1978 during the original run of Polka Days.
After the parade The Music Connection will play from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Another new event is the dunk tank on Sunday in the Birnamwood Park.
