A 10-hour standoff with police in Menominee County on May 20 was resolved peacefully despite several shots fired at law enforcement.
According to the Menominee County Sheriff’s Department, officer were executing a search warrant at about 7:05 a.m. at a property on Spirit Island Road as part of an ongoing investigation. During the deputies’ initial attempts to secure the property, a subject inside the structure opened fire on them.
Officers from several nearby agencies, including two SWAT teams, were called in to assist. Throughout the day, officers were fired upon several times.
At abut 5:25 p.m., the suspect, a 60-year-old Keshena man, was taken into custody. No injuries were reported.
Criminal charges will be referred to the Shawano/Menominee District Attorney’s Office.
Assisting at the scene were the Menominee Tribal Police, Menominee Tribal Conservation, Shawano County Sheriff’s Department, Shawano Police Department SRT, Brown County SWAT, Green Bay Police Department SWAT, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), Department of Criminal Investigations, Menomonee Tribal Ambulance Service and Shawano Ambulance Service.
