Lena baseball team loses battle for first place

May 9 Amherst 5, Bonduel 4 Bonduel went to Amherst and came out on the losing end of a 5-4 game. Amherst struck first with two runs in the first inning on a double by Sully Perkins. Bonduel tied it on back-to-back singles by Joe Felhofer and Carter Moesch in the third. Amherst retook the lead on an infield single by Noah Spoelstra. The Bears tied it up again in the fourth when Race Anvelink reached on an error, scoring Aiden Hillsberg. The Falcons then scored two more in the fourth on a single by Mike Glodowski. In the sixth for the Bears, Mason Zuleger doubled and scored on a Cade Johnson single to account for the final run. The Bears tried to rally in the seventh but left runners stranded at first and second to end the game Johnson led the Bears with two hits. Perkins and Logan Hintz each had two hits for Amherst. Bonduel is now 8-6 (5-3 in CWC East). Oconto Falls 7, Waupaca 2 Each team connected for seven hits, but Oconto Falls turned more of them into runs, winning 7-2 over Waupaca. Cole Bozile went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Wyatt Laughrin hit 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Jack Adler hit 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Adler was the winning pitcher, going six innings and giving up seven hits and one run, while walking two and striking out seven. Coleman 5, Lena 4 Lena missed out on the chance to move into first place in the Marinette & Oconto Conference with a 5-4 loss to Coleman. The Cougars improved to 8-1 in conference play, while the Wildcats fell to 7-1. Shawano 14, Menasha 7 May 8 Bonduel 5, Weyauwega-Fremont 1 Bonduel traveled to Weyauwega for a conference game and came away with a 5-1 win. Cade Johnson started on the mound and earned a complete game win striking out 11. Chris Gunst took the loss for the Warhawks. The Bears broke the game open in the sixth inning, scoring two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. Beckett Hartylaben had two hits including a double. Jack Zernicke had two hits, and Kody Schroeder added two hits and two RBIs.
