A Shawano woman and two men were recently indicted in federal court in separate cases on involuntary manslaughter and drug offenses.
According to court records, Desmond L. Waukau Jr., 21, allegedly caused the death of a male passenger in a BMW sedan Waukau was driving May 19 on the Menominee Reservation. Waukau allegedly accelerated the car in an attempt to elude a marked police vehicle.
Waukau had a detectable amount of a controlled substance and an intoxicant in his blood after the fatal crash. Waukau was indicted on Dec. 17, was arrested and arraigned on both counts Dec. 30 and detained at the Brown County Jail.
He faces maximum penalties of eight years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted on the involuntary manslaughter charge and a mandatory minimum of 2 1/2 years and up to 30 years in prison if convicted of fleeing an officer resulting in a death.
Waukau, of Green Bay, has a March 10 trial date before District Judge William Griesbach.
Dianna L. Chevalier, 40, was charged with possessing an unspecified quantity of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. The incident is alleged to have occurred on Sept. 10 at a location on the reservation.
Chevalier was indicted on Dec. 17, but no court dates have been set in the case, and she is not in custody, according to online records.
Jerome D. Crowe, 37, of Shawano, was charged with allegedly possessing with the intent to distribute a mixture containing cocaine on Nov. 19, The indictment contained no other information about the alleged incident.
Crowe was to be arraigned Jan. 8. He is not currently in custody.
State and federal agencies investigated Chevalier’s case under the Safe Trails Task Force, which targets alleged drug trafficking and violent crime on the reservation, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
