An economic assessment of the Menominee Indian Reservation is the subject of an online survey that will continue to seek input through Sept. 30.
The assessment is based on ongoing progress from the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin strategic plan, specifically the economic chapter.
This survey will collect community input to previous studies and strategic directions as well as assess the current economic conditions.
The survey includes 12 questions, which will include qualitative responses as well as quantitative scores and values. This will take about 10-15 minutes to complete.
The goal is for the Menominee community to have an overall sense of stability and wellbeing in alignment with the Menominee culture and needs.
The targeted service area for the project is the Menominee Indian Reservation. The reservation and Menominee County, a designated Persistent Poverty County, share nearly coterminous external boundaries. It measures about 365 square miles. The reservation size is 235,523 acres and is heavily forested, representing the largest single tract of sustained yield managed timberland in Wisconsin.
Survey questions center on the goals of the strategic plan, the three pillars of the strategic plan, the importance of select geographic assets, economic gaps, economic opportunities, suggested locations for businesses in demand to locate, economic shocks that could disrupt the Menominee economy, a request to describe initiatives that could be implemented to address future economic shocks and the impacts of climate change.
