Shawano County is participating in Wisconsin Harvest of the Month, a statewide campaign that encourages community members to eat more fruits and vegetables.
Each month, three grocery stores across Shawano County, including Charlie’s Country Store, Hanke’s/Wittenberg Sentry Foods and Cedar Street Market in Tigerton, will feature one Wisconsin-grown fruit or vegetable that is seasonally available.
Residents are encouraged to taste, explore and learn about the importance of eating fruits and vegetables and try some new recipes.
Menominee County/Nation is participating in the Menominee Harvest of the Moon program, which was created to strengthen connections to food through the integration of Menominee language, the Menominee Moons, Menominee art, and Indigenous recipes.
Each of these components relates to each other, and combined, a thriving and complex learning system exists. Within this learning system are the solutions to building a healthy and thriving community.
Each moon, Save-a-Lot in Keshena will feature the harvest that is seasonally available. Again, families are encouraged to taste, explore and learn about these traditional Menominee foods and recipes.
Both Harvest of the Month and Harvest of the Moon displays will include recipes that can be prepared at home.
This healthy eating campaign is a program of the Shawano-Menominee Healthy Communities committee.
