August L. Vorpahl

August Leonard Vorpahl, age 85, of Gillett, passed away Friday morning, June 7, 2024, at Evergreen Care Center in Shawano. August was born Feb. 9, 1939, in Shawano, the son of the late Herman and Annie (Lifke) Vorpahl. He attended the Mosling School and graduated from Gillett High School with the class of 1957. Following school, August farmed and worked as a truck driver. On July 2, 1966, August was united in marriage to the former Marjorie Ann Erb at Christ Lutheran Church in Hintz. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Underhill until moving to Shawano in 1995. August worked several other jobs throughout his life, including logging, Linewood Plywood and Aarrowcast, until his retirement in 1999. August was a good and faithful member of St. Jakobi Lutheran Church in the Town of Richmond and had been active at Christ Lutheran Church. August was a member of the Underhill Volunteer Fire Department for nearly 31 years. He loved to fish, listen to polka music, and attend his kids’ and grandkids’ events. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Marj of Gillett; seven children, Rhonda (Elwood) Badeau of Underhill, Robin Hughes of Reno, Nevada, Peter (Wendy) Vorpahl of Underhill, Penny (Jamie) Heroux of Underhill, Andrew (Heather) Vorpahl of Green Bay, Martin (Michelle) Vorpahl of Eau Claire and Jolene (Corey) Esch of Whitewater; 19 grandchildren, Jordan (Kaitlin), Korey (Angela) and Noah (Shelly Lynch) Badeau; Matthew, Mark, Aaron and Adam Vorpahl; Jerika, John, Phillip and Scott Heroux; Sheradin, Sawyer and Sofia Vorpahl; Emily and Mia Vorpahl; and Georgia, Wyatt and Quinn Esch; four great-grandchildren, Willow, Dawson and Jonah Badeau, and Patrick Lynch; and two sisters, Donna Mae Schelk of Suring and Mary Ann Liefke of Gillett. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews and several in-laws. August was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Erb, and son-in-law, Herbert Hughes. A funeral service for August will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Jakobi Lutheran Church, Town of Richmond. Pastor Travis Kleinschmidt will officiate. Interment will take place at Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Hintz. Visitation will begin at the church on Monday at 9 a.m. and continue until the time of service.
