Verla Christopherson, 81, Oconto Falls, died suddenly Wednesday evening, Jan. 17, 2024, at home of natural causes.
She was born Jan. 4, 1943, in the Town of Spruce to Adolph and Hellen (Krejcarek) Durocher. Verla grew up in the Lena area where she attended public schools, graduating from high school with the class of 1961.
On Oct. 6, 1962, she married Alan Christopherson at St. John Catholic Church in Coleman. The couple lived in Oconto Falls all of their married life where Verla was once employed at Shellman Publishing. Verla also worked as a secretary for the priests at St. Anthony Parish in Oconto Falls, then as a teacher’s aide for Lena public schools and St. Anthony Elementary School for many years. She was still assisting St. Anthony School at the time of her death.
She was a longtime and devoted member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where she sang in the church choir, belonged to the PCCW and volunteered on the funeral dinner committee.
Survivors are her husband of 61 years, Alan Christopherson, Oconto Falls; their only son, Vernal (Sue) Christopherson, Coleman; two grandsons, Max (Graham), Kaukauna, and Alex (Hanna), Minneapolis, Minnesota; two sisters, Sharon Jagiello, Lena, Lynette (Greg) Schmeisser, Arlington, Texas; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Doug Durocher; one sister, Marlene (Donny) Jagiello; and one brother-in-law, Ronny Jagiello.
Visitation will be held after 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024, at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls until a closing prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Visitation will continue after 9:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2024, at St. Anthony Catholic Church until the time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Fr. Ben Johnson officiating. Burial will take place in St. John Catholic Cemetery in Coleman.
