Youth leadership initiative gains early community support

A new effort to develop the next generation of leaders in Shawano County is gaining momentum.

In March, Leadership Shawano County, a program under the Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce, hosted informational meetings to introduce the proposed Youth Leadership Shawano County program.

Wisconsin had 2.4 days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending April 12, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Berms built to prevent failure of Balsam Row Road Dam

Shawano County Highway Department crews built 4-foot sand berms on each side of the Balsam Row Road Dam to prevent the dam from failing.

Sheriff George Lenzner said the sheriff’s department and emergency management were notified just before 5 p.m. April 14 of the dam’s risk of failure.

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood FFA paired with the Shawano County Farm Bureau to host an event that featured 21 businesses directly connected to the agriculture industry.

A total of 290 students from Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School and surrounding school districts attended the April 9 event.

Egg hunt worth the wait

Children in three age groups scampered across the lawn and playground at Kuckuk Park in Shawano on April 11 for the city parks and recreation department’s annual Easter egg hunt. The hunt, which featured nearly 6,000 plastic eggs and prizes, was postponed from April 4 due to weather conditions.
