Kyle Hotvedt is the new airport manager in town.
Hired June 9, he replaces Colin Isom, who served as Shawano Municipal Airport and Seaplane Base manager for the previous year.
“It’s been a lot of fun so far. I really enjoy the job,” Hotvedt said. “I’m excited to get my foot in the door in the aviation industry and can’t wait to see where it takes me.”
Hotvedt previously worked at Nordic Mountain ski resort in Wild Rose, Waupaca Foundry and Clear Water Harbor restaurant and bar in Waupaca.
A 2002 graduate of Waupaca High School, Hotvedt is studying aviation management at Fox Valley Technical College.
“I have two semsters to go,” he said “It’s all online. So after working all day, I go home and do some homework on my computer.”
Much of the planning and coordination of the annual fly-in and car show was well underway or already completed when he joined the airport.
The annual fly-in and car show will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 16. The rain date is the same hours Aug. 17.
Admission is free.
Events will include static aircraft, skydivers, warbirds, a veterans tent, food vendors, police and fire vehicles, plus demonstrations. More than 140 classic cars will also be on display.
EAA Chapter 1710 will sponsor a Young Eagles program that will provide free airplane rides for children 8-17 with approval from a parent or guardian.
Flights aboard a World War II Boeing Stearman will be available for a price to be announced later.
The Stearman was the main aircraft used for basic flight training for both the U.S. Army and Navy during the war. After the war, many Stearmans were sold on the civilian market and used for various purposes, including crop dusting, aerobatics and airshows.
