“The Homesteader’s Fraulein” will be presented by the cast of Red Light Saloon at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Townsend Town Hall on state Highway 32.
Written and directed by Kathleen Marsh and narrated by Marcia Wahoske, this musical comedy stars Lee Gerndt as Flapjack, a German immigrant homesteader who moonlights as a cook at the Red Light Saloon. Unable to come up with the money to bring his fiancee Elvira (Bev Gerndt) to America, Flapjack grows increasingly homesick and decides to go home.
Not wanting to lose her best employee, saloon owner Cathouse Cate (Kathleen Marsh) and her husband, Whiskey Jack (Jon Marsh), devise a plan to keep Flapjack from leaving.
The desperate couple secures the help of the barroom boys (Gary Baum, JJ Jenkins, Pat Lowery, Kris Vandervest), the dance hall girls (Cindy Resler, Shirley Ashbeck, Sandy Jenkins), the Pine Ridge Boys (Al Benson, Jerry Bodoh, Don Franzen, Scott Wycherley), Marylynn (Marilyn Karow) and Charles (Bruce Karow) Townsend, and W.A. Holt (David Retzlaff). Adding spice to the plot is Elvira’s mother (Cindy Jonet).
Proceeds from the show go to the Holt & Balcom Logging Camp Museum; all cast and crew members are volunteers.
Admission is $8 at the door. Doors open one hour prior to each performance, and musical entertainment will start a half-hour before each show. Beer, soda, sarsaparilla sodas (root beer floats) and snacks will be available.
