What began as an offshoot to a recycling business in Kelly Lake has developed into a stand-alone business for Joe Fabry and his wife, Nicole. The Fabrys recently opened Lot of Deals, offering vehicle sales and service at a location within sight of state Highway 22 at the northeast entrance to Oconto Falls.
Joe Fabry grew up in the salvage, recycling and repair business after his parents, Joe and Ruth Fabry, opened Joe’s Recycling in 1992 on County Road M near Kelly Lake.
Car sales and service went hand-in-hand with the recycling business, and Joe was already working on cars as a teen. He knew he’d eventually take over that aspect of his parents’ business.
“That was the plan, right from the get-go. If the car business went well, that was something I would get,” he said.
Both Joe and Nicole (whose maiden name is Watkins) are 1997 graduates of Oconto Falls High School. The couple was looking for a location with more visibility for their business and easier access for customers, and decided to lease the former Kallies Electric building.
“It’s really opened up a lot more opportunities for us. Lot more exposure, and I think it’s a little more convenient,” Nicole said.
Joe, who is Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified, is a mechanic and service manager at Lot of Deals. He also handles vehicle sales.
Nicole is responsible for the book work and other office duties, while continuing to work full time at Greatland Corporation in Green Bay.
Josh Grulkowski is their full-time mechanic.
The Fabrys renovated the shop by installing car lifts and transferring the necessary tools and equipment from Joe’s Recycling.
Lot of Deals carries numerous makes and models of vehicles.
“I’ve been at it long enough to see the good and bad in all of them,” Joe said.
The economy-priced vehicles range is cost from $2,000 to $7,000.
“Our goal is really just to sell a good, mechanically sound car,” Joe said.
A ribbon cutting ceremony involving the Oconto Falls Area Chamber of Commerce was held Feb. 25.
