Larry J. Welch, 37, of Shawano, passed away at his home with his family and friends at his side on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, after a courageous, 14-month battle with AML leukemia. Born on Oct. 25, 1975, in Shawano, he was the son of Christine L. (Surprise) Welch and the late Elmer C. Welch Jr.
He grew up in Gresham and went to school in Shawano. He later moved to Shawano, where he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, snowmobiling, playing computer games, surfing the Internet, going out to eat and, at times, being a garage monkey.
Larry is survived by his mother, Christine Welch, of Shawano; his siblings, Wanda (James) Schmitt, of Green Bay, Jeffrey (Karen) Dey, of Oconto, Randy (Mary) Dey, of Suring, Wesley (Lydia) Welch, of Coleman, and Steven (Kim) Welch, of Shawano; nephews, Cody and Sheldon Welch, Thomas Dey, Jeremy (Laura) Dey and Edward Dey; nieces, Jennifer Dey and Gabrielle (Nicholas) Campbell; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Welch Jr.; two brothers, Douglas and Charles; grandparents, Elmer C. and Malinda B. Welch, Irvin and Margaret Surprise; and a nephew, Jason Dey.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at the Old Stockbridge Presbyterian Church in Morgan Siding with the Rev. Karl Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jerry Winkler and the cancer team at Green Bay Oncology, the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital, especially the third floor nursing staff, St. Vincent’s Hospital staff and their ninth floor nursing staff, and the team from Unity Hospice.
