Shawano police continue to investigate the death of a 5-year-old girl at a local mini-golf course July 1.
Charlotte Johnson, daughter of Cruz and Erin Johnson, was pronounced dead at the scene after she was pulled from a pond at Shawano Mini Golf, an 18-hole mini-golf course at 1056 E. Green Bay St.
Officers responded to a report of an unresponsive child at 8 p.m.
Lifesaving efforts by police and emergency medical personnel were unsuccessful.
“When we reopened Shawano Mini Golf, our only goal was to create a place where families could laugh, make memories and spend time together,” Dusty DeLorme, owner of Shawano Mini Golf, wrote in a Facebook post. “Never in a million years did I think anything so heartbreaking could happen here.
“I was only a short distance away and quickly responded when I heard the need for help. I began lifesaving measures until medical professionals took over once they arrived to the course. Despite everyone’s effort, this precious life was lost.”
Shawano Mini Golf reopened in June after closing its doors in 2022.
The business is closed until further notice, according to its Facebook page.
Charlotte is survived by her parents; a brother, Brantley; and other family members.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. July 8 at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Scott Ludford officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. July 7 at the funeral home and again from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service July 8.
Burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano.
