Greg Zeitler received the 2013-14 Educator of Excellence Award, sponsored by the Nicolet Oconto Retired Teachers Association, for the Gillett School District. He was selected by the Gillett School District faculty.
Zeitler graduated from Coleman High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in 1993. In 2001 Zeitler earned his master’s degree in education from Viterbo College in La Crosse.
Zeitler began his teaching career at De Pere Middle School. The following year, he accepted a job at Gillett Middle School and has been teaching there for the past 20 years. He has taught eighth-grade math and seventh-grade science. In recent years, he also taught seventh-grade English language arts and social studies.
In addition to teaching, Zeitler has coached for the past 20 years. He has coached football, wrestling and track at the middle school and high school levels.
Zeitler has been married to Linda for the past 21 years. They have two sons, Max, 17, and Alex, 16, and a dog, Brutus.
“When I am not coaching, I enjoy watching my boys participate in their sports, including track, cross-country, football and wrestling,” Zeitler said. “This doesn’t leave much time to enjoy our wooded property in the Coleman area where I grew up, but every free moment we have, we try to get out and enjoy the woods.”
He and his family are members of Faith Lutheran Church. Zeitler also belongs to the Gillett Civic Club.
