Cookie Vigue volunteers at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena and St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit.
Vigue was born in Chicago, graduating from Notre Dame High School.
She worked at Illinois Bell and then at a manufacturing company where she met her husband, Bob.
She is also a hair stylist.
Bob and Cookie, who are both retired, have homes in Oshkosh and on Legend Lake.
Bob and Cookie have been married 32 years and have four children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Cookie likes to crochet, read, and now she and Bob have joined a bowling league.
Q Where do you volunteer?
A “I help out at St. Michael’s in Keshena and at St. Anthony‘s in Neopit when they need help. My sister-in-law, Pat Roberts, lives here and I would help her with the cooking. My husband and I moved here full time almost a year ago and we continue to volunteer. The last four occasions I’ve been co-chairing. Bob is the financial secretary for the St. Kateri Tekakwitha Knights of Columbus. I‘m on the church council.”
Q What do you do?
A “I do a lot of the cooking. I cook for the Janice Dickie Memorial, the plant sale, the parish festival and now the corn roast. The Knights do a Thanksgiving meal, and Bob and I do the cooking. For the corn roast, I’m going to try to make hull corn soup and have corn muffins, corn on the cob and pop corn. There will also be Indian tacos, fry bread, chili, along with hamburgers and brats. I make and pass out fliers, make the menu and make sure we have volunteers. We’re trying to get more crafters to come.”
Q Why do you volunteer?
A “I love to cook. My mom was a real good cook. I’m Polish and German and I like to experiment, and Bob is good at trying new things. It’s the hardest thing now that it’s just my husband and me. It’s satisfying when people enjoy the food that you prepared and compliment you.”
The corn roast is Saturday, Aug. 17, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Along with the food, crafters will be there. The Rummage House will be open along with Book Share. The youth choir will perform, and there will be a bake sale.
