Q Where do you volunteer?
A “I spend Mondays at Shawano Medical Center. I’m at the Shawano Area Food Pantry and Resource Center on Friday and Saturday. I drive the van for the Disabled American Veterans.”
Q What do you do for each one?
A SAFPARC: “I clean on Saturday and pick up bakery. I sweep and mop the floor. I go to the drop site (Shawano Area Food Center) when it’s needed. I do whatever Flo needs me to do.”
SMC: “I work in transportation there. I assist patients in getting to and from their procedures. I’ve been doing it about five years. They brought some procedures from the clinic because of the construction. I am there on Mondays from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.”
DAV: “Since February 2009 I pick up veterans in Shawano, Clintonville and New London and transport them to Milwaukee to the Zablocki Medical Center for their appointments. On any day, it is nine or 10 hours. The latest I can leave the medical center is three in the afternoon, but it depends on the appointments. Anybody that feels they owe the veterans anything or do something that feels good should go to the Veterans Service office and put your name in. You don’t have to be a veteran to drive.”
Q Why do you volunteer?
A “I volunteer because my life has been blessed with a good job and a good wife and I felt I needed to give back to the community and I needed something to fill the day.”
