The Bears are back on track and back to .500 in the Central Wisconsin Conference-8.
The Bonduel High School football team beat Wittenberg-Birnamwood 47-14 in a game Friday in Wittenberg.
“Our kids just came out ready to hit,” Bonduel coach James Westrich said. “They had a good week of practice focusing on playing their assignments. We struggled with that a little bit last week.”
The Bears (2-1, 1-1 CWC-8) jumped out to a 21-0 lead on a Hunter VanderLinden touchdown, a 30-yard punt return by Danny Tauchen and a 17-yard touchdown pass from Colton Dobratz to Connor Rosin in the first quarter.
Wittenberg-Birnamwood (1-3, 0-2 CWC-8) responded with an 80-yard kick return by Keegan Miller and a 2-point conversion pass from Sam Szews to Jesse Sprauge.
Dobratz and Rosin opened the scoring in the second half on another 17-yard touchdown. Dobratz finished six of nine for 60 yards and two touchdowns. The touchdowns were Rosin’s only catches.
VanderLinden, who finished with 18 carries for 213 yards, would score again in the second half, as would Jacob Wudtke, on a 1-yard dive, and Mitch Sokolski, who scampered 64-yards for another score.
“I talked to the running backs, all of them, and told them it’s been a while since we had a good game as a group,” Westrich said. “Lets hit the holes tonight and try to get some yards and they did a nice job.”
Miller finished with 14 carries for 69 yards. Szews was five of six for 35 yards.
