Emelie Horsens, of Cecil, has been selected for a $5,000 Women in Auto Care Scholarship. Horsens was selected in June from more than 1,000 applicants to receive a University of the Aftermarket Foundation Scholarship and plans to attend Northeastern Wisconsin Technical College to study collision repair. The foundation provides funding for aftermarket educational programs, research, and scholarships.

Summer vacation means more relaxed schedules for most families, where bedtimes and wake-up times may wander a bit as they enjoy camping, traveling, and all the fun activities. The Shawano County Historical Society, with help from the Shawano Parks and Recreation Department, will present “Headstones: World War I Stories,” at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1115 E. Green Bay St., Shawano.

Shawano Area Writers met July 15 in the Elsie Engel Reading Room at the Shawano County Library. There were nine members present plus one visitor. A new writer, JoAnne Zellner, will be joining our group. Zellner was inspired to write a biography for her children after reading a poorly written self-published book by a farmer.

Shawano County Library is trying to bring families together Aug. 10 at Arlington Park, 300 N. Humphrey Circle, Shawano, for a free, interactive outdoor movie. The library will show “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” around 8:45 p.m. Interactive movies are a fun and active way to experience movies, according to Kristie Hauer, library director.

The Shawano County Art and Craft Fair, sponsored by the Shawano County Arts Council, takes place Sunday, July 25, at Mielke County Park, N5649 Airport Road, Shawano. The show runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Food and refreshments will be available on the grounds. Proceeds from the art fair are used to support events held at the Mielke Arts Center.
