The Shawano girls wrestling team placed second out of 29 teams in Kimberly on Dec. 7.
“The girls wrestled a great tournament and spent most of the day in the top three for points, at times in first place,” coach Mike Homan said. “It was a close final round as we finished in second place just six points out of first. All of the girls wrestled aggressively and left everything out on the mat. I’m especially proud of the way they moved forward off the whistle and fought for positioning against great opponents.”
All of the girls improved with each match they wrestled.
Gwyn Hermann was the champion at 107 pounds.
“She was aggressive and relentless in all her matches,” Homan said. “She racked up many bonus points throughout the day and led the team in points.”
Vivian Waldburger finished in second place. She scored the team 42 points.
“She is continuously getting better and looks to keep on improving throughout the season,” Homan said.
Maddie Moesch also finished in second place.
Kendall Knope wrestled well in her first tournament and took third.
“She fights hard and wrestled well,” Homan said.
Also placing third were Zennah Bosetski, Mille Panske, Ella Korth, Lauren Seehafer and Adalyn Barkley.
Placing in fifth were Jozlyn Brocker and Brynn Hannes.
In sixth were Jenna Moede and Ayanna O’Kimosh.
Lily Tomas placed ninth, and Bella Supper was 10th. Chloe Gilling placed 11th,
Maddie Miller and Kiara Johnson each finished in 12th place, and Emmy Marien was 14th.
