Safe Kids will collect old car seats

The Oconto County Safe Kids chapter invites parents to drop off old car seats, free of charge, at three locations. Collections will take place until April 1 at the Mountain Ambulance Garage, from 9 a.m. to noon April 11 at the St. John’s Health Fair, 101 W. Main St., Gillett; and from 10 a.m. to noon April 25 at the Oconto Fire Department. Unwanted seats will be taken apart to be recycled and disposed of properly. Turn in a car seat or booster seat if it was involved in a car crash, has missing parts or broken pieces, was bought at a garage sale or thrift store, is not being used or is unsafe because of a recall. All car seats have an expiration date that can be found on the manufacturer’s label. If there is not an exact expiration date listed, call the company that made the car seat. Seats used after their expiration date might not be safe or hold up in a crash. The car seat recycle event is sponsored by Safe Kids Wisconsin, Advanced Disposal Services, Oconto County Public Health Division and Oconto Fire Department.
