Ruth K. Way, 96, of McFarland, formerly of Tigerton, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, in Shawano.
She was born on Aug. 23, 1917, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Laura (Papendorf) and Ben Mauel. She grew up in Marion, where she married Robert B. Way on Nov. 8, 1941.
At age 46 after her husband’s death, she went to college at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, graduating in 1973. She was a second-grade teacher in Tigerton until her retirement at age 71. Ruth was an active member of the Monona Senior Chorus, where she gained many friends. She enjoyed traveling with her family to such places as Ireland, San Francisco and Nashville.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Jane (John) Swanke, of Shawano; a son, Joseph (Anne) Way, of McFarland; grandchildren, John W. (Hannah) Swanke, Sara Swanke, Katie (Jeremiah) Gassensmith, Emily (Jim) Grorud, Samantha Way and Will Way; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, William R. Way; a sister, Joyce Moore; a brother, James B. Mauel; a granddaughter, Megan Way; a great-grandson, James Grorud; a great-granddaughter, Josie Grorud.
Funeral services will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5306 Main St., McFarland, at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, with the Rev. Stephen Smith officiating. Burial will be held at Union Cemetery in Tigerton at a later date. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. Monday at the church.

She was a loving, devoted mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed.
