Roger W. Carriveau, 78, Stiles, died Wednesday evening, Aug. 6, 2014, at Sharpe Care following an illness with cancer. He was born April 20, 1936, in Little River to Walter and Grace (Smith) Carriveau.
Roger grew up in the Lena area where he attended high school, graduating with the Class of 1954. As a young man, he served in the Army National Guard of Wisconsin.
On Jan. 21, 1956, he married his high school sweetheart, Audrey Frye, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Lena. Roger lived in the area all of his life where he once worked as station manager of the local co-op. It was during this time of his life when Roger helped his father with the family Morning Glory milk route.
As an avid horseman, Roger helped his dad during horse pulls and was part of the team that became state champion. Roger later worked at Fort Howard Paper in Green Bay for 30 years, retiring in 1998.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Stiles, where he ushered and served on various committees over the years. He was also a member of the Lena Knights of Columbus and, along with his son, Michael, belonged to American Legion Post No. 1111 in Colorado.
Survivors are his wife of 58 years, Audrey Carriveau, Stiles; their children, Michael (Stephanie) Carriveau, Arvada, Colorado, Jeffrey (Patti) Carriveau, Stiles, Sue (Brian Snow) Vandenbush, Gillett, Penny Hujet, Stiles; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ruth Nemetz, Green Bay, Judy (Ron) Dembroski and Janet (Brad) Glime, all of Lena, and Debbie Gordon, Colorado; two brothers, Ken Carriveau, California, and Richard (Pamela) Carriveau, North Dakota; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Larry, and two grandchildren, Joey Koebach and Grace Hujet.
Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls. A Knights of Columbus prayer service was held at 7 p.m.
Visitation continued after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Stiles. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Joel Sember officiating. Burial took place in St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, Lena.
