There is something about the thought of company that will cause something to break down.
The last time I had company over the weekend, the hot water heater quit working.
I knew they may not take a shower, but I also knew I would need to wash dishes, and they would like to wash up with something warmer than cold water.
I called the local plumber, and he came on Saturday morning to make the repair. It wasn’t anything serious, just the normal cleaning of something that is 8 years old.
Now here we are, two weeks later, and the toilet in the guest bathroom starts running.
I turned the water source off, so my water bill wouldn’t go sky high, and waited until Monday to call the plumber. Meanwhile, I needed to walk down the hall, through the master bedroom to the master bathroom.
I put in a few extra steps for those two days, but I considered it extra exercise.
Of course, on Monday night I was expecting seven women to arrive for a fun night of cards. I was relieved that the plumber was available to come that morning, and I left the front door open for him.
When I got home from my trip to Shawano, and exercise at Total Fitness, I noticed the door was locked again, and then I knew my toilet was now fixed.
It was fixed, and the ladies came and we ate and played, and had a good time.
Now that everything is working again, I am not expecting any company.
The next overnight company won’t be until October, so I am already wondering what will break down next.
Meanwhile, life rolls along and we are already heading toward the end of September.
So far I haven’t had a frost here, but realize it could come in the near future.
The leaves seem a bit slow on turning, but there are some locations that are spectacular.
I am enjoying the cooler weather and am hoping to get out for a walk on one of those cool days.
I also hope there isn’t too much wind and rain that will take the leaves down early. I don’t think I am quite ready for bare branches quite yet.
The last of the garden produce is being harvested by those who garden.
Patches of round, orange pumpkins seem to be rising up overnight. I think they are great, but my mind is turning to squash; butternut is my favorite.
Have any of you caught on to the “Duck Dynasty” TV show? People kept telling me I should watch it, and eventually I did. At first I was turned off by the beards and long hair, but now I admit I watch it with interest now and then.
Now I can hardly go anywhere without seeing a reference to the show. There are greeting cards, cardboard cutouts, shirts, and I am sure before long just about anything we could think of. Their brand new episode this month had 11.8 million viewers.
I have been trying to figure out why they are so popular.
Perhaps each show ending with a prayer is part of the craze.
I do believe most people like Phil and Kay more than Kim and Kanye.
