Wisconsin had 3.3 days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending April 27, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Another rainy week hampered efforts to begin widespread fieldwork statewide.
Activities included manure application, tillage and planting as conditions allowed.
Topsoil moisture condition rated 1% very short, 10% short, 65% adequate and 24% surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated 3% very short, 14% short, 66% adequate and 17% surplus.
Corn planting was 4% complete, while soybeans were 6% planted.
Oat planting was 26% complete, four days behind last year and two days behind the five-year average. Oats were 3% emerged.
Potato planting reached 41%, four days behind last year but one day ahead of the average.
Spring tillage was 26% complete, five days behind last year and three days behind the average.
Pasture and range condition was rated 37% good to excellent, up 10 percentage points from last week.
Winter wheat condition was rated 58% good to excellent, up six percentage points from last week.
