Robert Parisey, squad director of the Oconto Falls Ambulance Service, has resigned after 27 years of service.
The board announced Parisey’s departure Nov. 8, saying the resignation was effective Oct. 31.
“As a board we felt it was time to move forward in a different direction, ” said Ron Korzeniewski, board of directors chairman.
Parisey could not be reached for comment.
Assistant Squad Director Amy Brauer has stepped in as interim squad director.
“All of this was a little unexpected,” board member Marty Coopman said. “We’re going to put together a plan to move forward, but it will take time to work through the process.”
Brauer met briefly with the board to discuss the change in leadership.
“Once Amy determines the necessity to meet again, either this month or next, we’ll discuss plans more fully,” Coopman said. “We have no tentative time line set.”
The board earlier this fall hired a full-time administrative coordinator, Kim Magnin, and three part-time workers to help cover daytime hours when volunteers are unavailable.
“Bob has left his mark on the community” Korzeniewski said in a news release from the board. “His dedication, core values and passion for emergency medical services deserves recognition.”
According to the release, Parisey was appointed squad director in September 1996 and led formation of the ambulance service as a nonprofit corporation. He served as president of the EMS Council, worked with Community Memorial Hospital to develop the First Medic Program in Oconto County, was an avid supporter of the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College EMS programs, and encouraged EMS education throughout the public school system.
Parisey also was credited with playing an instrumental role in an ambulance service expansion that added a five-bay garage, coordinating the Green Bay Packers fundraiser for seven years that earned enough funds for the service to purchase an ATV six-wheeler, implementing the first public-access defibrillator program in the service area and organizing the First Response Program in Oconto County in the town of Abrams, later expanding it to Kelly Lake, Morgan and Lena.
