Shawano Community High School junior Leah Nordin is the new all-time scoring leader for girls basketball.
Last week, she topped the record of 1,168 points, which was held by Christi Burden since 1989.
“She is very competitive and works on her skills year-round,” coach Ryan Koenig said. “It’s been a pleasure to coach her and see her development through our Hoops program in third grade until now.”
A special recognition ceremony was held the Dec. 13 home game against Xavier, which Shawano won 56-43.
Nordin also announced her commitment to Wisconsin, which beat out four other teams in her final five, Marquette, Butler, Illinois State and Belmont.
The scoring record is another of many accomplishments for the 6-foot-2 guard and forward.
As a sophomore in the 2023-24 school year, she was ranked third among 2026 graduates by Prep Hoops Wisconsin and fourth by the Wisconsin Junior All-Stars.
She was named to the WIAA second team all-state and was a unanimous selection to the Bay Conference first-team all-conference.
Nordin was named to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division 2 all-state team as a sophomore and the academic all-state team as a freshman and sophomore.
She led the Bay Conference in scoring both of her seasons.
In her freshman year, she was awarded honorable mention status all-state, was named to the Bay Conference first team all-conference, was co-defensive player of the year, earned honorable mention status by the WBCA Division 2 and led the Bay Conference in points per game, rebounds per game and steals per game. Nordin has the SCHS records for the most rebounds in a season (228), most steals in a season (91), most points in a game (40) and most points in a season (554 in her sophomore year, which broke the record of 477 she set in her freshman year).
“We are happy for her accomplishments as an individual and teammate and look forward to many more in her last two seasons,” Koenig said.
