Oconto Falls FFA earns ag literacy grant

Oconto Falls is one of eight Wisconsin FFA chapters to have been awarded $500 grants through Wisconsin Agriculture in the Classroom’s inaugural FFA Food for America Ag Literacy Grant program. These grants will provide financial support to FFA chapters with plans for executing and evaluating agriculture literacy activities as part of Wisconsin FFA’s Food for America program. • Troy W. Ford, 38, Shawano, pleaded no contest Dec. 3 to third-degree sexual assault. On Jan. 3, Judge William Kussel Jr. sentenced him to two and a half years in state prison followed by three years of extended supervision. • Cassandra A. Braddock, 23, Keshena, pleaded no contest Jan. 3 to possession of THC (second or subsequent offense) and a misdemeanor count of resisting or obstructing an officer.

Kathleen M. Senzig
Kathleen M. “Kathy” Senzig, 81, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, Jan. 3, 2024, at ThedaCare in Shawano. Kathy was born in Bear Creek on April 21, 1942, to the late Christian and Angarose (Wilfuhr) Peeters. On Oct. 7, 1961, she was united in marriage to Jerry J. Senzig in Bear Creek. They were blessed with three sons, Gregory, Todd and Troy.

Marvin H. Zahn
Marvin H. Zahn, 85, Gillett, entered into eternal rest Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, in the farmhouse where he was also born and raised. Marvin was born on Aug. 11, 1938, to the late Robert C. and Hattie (Mueller) Zahn. He was a baptized, confirmed and lifelong active member of Immanuel/Faith United Lutheran Church in Gillett.

Milton M. Laabs
Milton M. Laabs, 89, of Berry Lake, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, Dec. 30, 2023, at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay. Milton was born Aug. 23, 1934, in Abbotsford, a son of the late Alfred and Alvina (Awe) Laabs. He attended country schools and later served in the U.S. Army from 1961-65. Upon returning from service, he started driving semi for Super Value, then drove for Klemm Tanker Truck.

Packers clinch playoff spot after beating Bears
Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur boosted his record against the Chicago Bears to 10-0, as the Packers beat the Chicago Bears in a 17-9 victory at Lambeau Field on Jan. 7 to clinch a wild card spot in the NFL Playoffs. Quarterback Jordan Love finished the game completing 27-of-32 passes for 316 yards and two touchdowns.

Four Challenge Academy graduates come from Shawano, Keshena
With a festive holiday atmosphere, the Wisconsin Challenge Academy celebrated the graduation of its 51st class during a Dec. 16 ceremony at Baraboo High School. The graduating class featured 98 cadets from 33 counties, including four cadets from Shawano and Menominee counties.
