To the editor: Last December, Donald Trump responded to a question from Putin lover Sean Hannity if he would abuse his power on anybody or anything. Trump suggested he would be comfortable being a dictator to deliver on some of his campaign promises, such as securing the southern border.

Jim Linzmeyer, an Army veteran and former star athlete at Gillett High School, died Saturday, Feb. 10, at Serenity Gardens in Gillett at age 76. The son of Sylvester and Ruby Linzmeyer, Jim graduated from Gillett High School in 1965.

Donald R. Gardebrecht, 81, of Suring, passed away on Monday, Feb. 12, 2024. Donnie was born on Jan. 2, 1943, to the late Herman and Melva (Zaddack) Gardebrecht. He attended Suring High School and began driving milk truck for Manthei’s Cheese Factory. In 1963, Donnie moved to Milwaukee to be near his future wife, Diane Kohn. He worked at a Macy’s warehouse. The couple was married on Aug. 14, 1965, at St. John Lutheran Church in Gillett.

Brenda L. Bowman, 58, of Suring, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024. Brenda was born on Nov. 30, 1965, to Gerald and Linda (Firgens) Bowman. She graduated from Suring High School with the class of 1983. Brenda worked as a nurse at Anna John Nursing Home and Bellin Memorial Hospital. She loved going out with friends and going to the movies. A highlight of her life was adventuring with her grandsons.

To the editor, In a democracy, the will of the people is supposed to be the law of the land. But what if elected representatives focus more on their own desire for control and power than their responsibility to the people they are supposed to represent? Rigged gerrymandered maps in Wisconsin have resulted in majority control of the state legislature by Republicans for a decade, even when statewide elections often favor Democratic candidates.
