Hillside Assembly announces fall activities
Hillside Assembly of God Church in Gillett will begin a new year of youth and children’s programs on Wednesday evenings beginning Sept. 4, kicking off with a special open house event at 6:30 p.m. with prizes, games, hot dogs and ice cream. Royal Rangers is a boys’ program for ages 3-18. Boys learn practical lessons from the Bible with a variety of themes including camping, sports, lifesaving, first aid, etc.

unsaved changes This week was exceptionally busy so I picked a short, easy read. “Paw and Order” by Chris Abernathy. It is the first in the Detective Whiskers Cat Cozy Mystery series. Whiskers the cat spent many hours helping Detective Fred Mason work on cases at home. They had an impressive solve rate earning Whiskers his own detective badge. Fred and Sheila hoped to retire to Florida. They found the perfect place, but it was too expensive.

Judy A. Rosenow, age 77, of Embarrass, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, at ThedaCare Medical Center, Shawano. The Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, Clintonville, is assisting the Rosenow family.

Shopko Optical opens in Shawano
Shopko Optical opened a new location in Shawano as the company continues to expand its operation of more than 140 stores in 13 states. The store is located at 1056 E. Green Bay St. It provides eye exams, contact lens fittings and other eye care services. Shopko Optical is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
