Back-to-back games can take a toll on a high school basketball team.
Take the Wittenberg-Birnamwood Chargers, for example. The Chargers hosted Shawano on Dec. 22, headed to Clintonville the following day and ended up with a pair of hard-fought nonconference wins.
One day after handing Shawano a 57-56 loss, the Chargers improved to 7-0 with a 59-51 nonconference win over the Truckers.
There was a time when things were not looking good for the Shawano boys basketball team in its nonconference matchup with Wittenberg-Birnamwood.
The Chargers had used a 10-2 run to take a 38-28 lead over the Hawks early in the second half. Shawano chipped away at the lead and cut the deficit to a single point twice in the final three minutes but ended up on the short end of a 57-56 final score Dec. 22 on the Chargers’ home court.
Nancy Ann Kamke, of Kelly Lake, died Dec. 26, 2025.
Nancy was born in Milwaukee on March 21, 1932, the daughter of J. Paul and Evelyn (Kappen) Arnold. She attended schools in Milwaukee, graduating from Washington High School in 1950. She did teacher training for two years at Marinette County Normal. She got a teaching position at Winesville School, Porterfield, Wisconsin, teaching all eight grades.
Donald Eugene Warner, formerly of Shawano, passed away peacefully Dec. 22, 2025, at age 87.
Don was born Jan. 28, 1938, in Burrton, Kansas, the fourth of five children to Ralph Warner and Fern (Barger) Warner. He left Kansas at age 8 to live with his maternal Aunt Eunice and his Uncle Edwin Schultz near Cecil.
Chad Carl Charles Neuman, 57, passed away in Neenah.
Chad was born Dec. 19, 1967, in Shawano to Roger and Sandra (Hoppe) Neuman. He was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church, Shawano. While attending St. James Lutheran School, Chad was involved in the bell choir and also took piano lessons with Ms. Ramsey.
