Most incumbents of the Shawano Common Council and Shawano School Board are expected to have an easy time staying in office with no official opposition.
There is one exception, however.

The Shawano Area Writers is calling for entries for the 18th annual George Putz Memorial Student Writing Contest.
Every student in grades 1-12 who lives or goes to school in either Shawano or Menominee counties is encouraged to submit entries in fiction, nonfiction and poetry categories. There is no entry fee.
Students compete for a chance to win cash prizes and a Certificate of Achievement.

Academic honors are awarded to College of Menominee Nation students with outstanding grade-point averages based on term GPA. Full-time students who have completed at least 12 graded credit hours are eligible for academic honors at the end of each semester. Students must be in good academic standing to qualify.

Audrey L. Gallagher, 89, of Shawano, passed away on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, at Sun Valley Assisted Living Facility, Shawano.
Audrey Linda Gallagher was born Jan. 8, 1934, in Gillett, daughter to the late Edmund and Linda (Kitzman) Elbe. She graduated from Gillett High School with the class of 1952.
Audrey was united in marriage to Lowell F. Gallagher on Sept. 11, 1954, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Gillett.
William J. “Willy” Bullock, 65, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 30, 2023.
William was born March 30, 1958, in Oshkosh to the late William and Phyllis (Cheesebrough) Bullock. On Oct. 28, 2000, Willy was united in marriage to the love of his life, Karen Heling, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, White Clay Lake.
Willy had a tremendous work ethic and worked as a carpenter for many years before retiring.
