Eli Kassler scored the winning goal in overtime to help Antigo defeat Milton 5-4 on Jan. 6. However, before then, Owen Dickman scored all four goals for Antigo. Milton started the game with a 2-0 lead in the first period. Dickman scored his first goal at 2:41 in the second period with assists from Kassler and Parker Paff.

The Oconto Falls Area Chamber of Commerce has rolled out the lineup for its annual Music by the River Sunset Concert Series, which has become a staple of the summer season. The monthly series brings regional bands into town to perform from 6-9 p.m. at East Side Beach. Residents and visitors are invited to bring their own lawn chairs and enjoy a free concert as the sun sets over the Oconto River.

Most of the potential vacancies on the Shawano County Board now have candidates, and one district will even have a primary election due to three people seeking the post. District 22 voters will go to the polls Feb. 20 to narrow the list of candidates from three to two. The candidates are Jerry Ahlers, Anne L. Smith and R.

The Shawano County Public Property Committee on Jan. 4 took another step forward in separating the county from the Shawano Municipal Airport. An updated memorandum of understanding between the county and the city of Shawano was approved and forwarded to the executive committee for consideration. Currently, the city and county equally share some operating costs and capital improvement costs. When the separation becomes effective Jan.

Three dogs raised by Ri Lee Kennels of Oconto Falls placed high among the 5,756 canines entered in the AKC National Championship Dec. 15-17 in Orlando, Florida. Local breeder owner handler Nikkie Kinziger-Francois of Ri Lee Kennels and GCH Ri Lee’s Diamond of Faith, better known as Ivy, finished as the No. 1 owner-handled Tibetan Terrier in the National Owner Handler Series (NOHS).

Four 911 communications towers and the Work Release Center in Shawano County were the items featured in the latest Facilities Condition Assessment completed by Somerville Architects and Engineers. The report was reviewed by the Shawano County Public Property Committee on Jan. 4. Jim Davel, county administrative coordinator, said three of the four towers are in decent shape. He said the Bonduel tower and housing unit are in the best shape.

Gillett FFA As the 2023-2024 school year kicked off, so did the hard work and dedication of being in Gillett FFA. The first chapter meeting was held for high school and middle school FFA members. Students began planning about the months ahead and started brainstorming new ways to get involved with FFA. The first event of the Year was the Fall Leadership Workshop, which took place in Seymour.
