Birnamwood freshman Holly Orgeman, a bowler with the D.C. Everest/Wittenberg varsity girls bowling team, grabbed second place in the Wisconsin High School Bowling Club (WIHSBC) state meet at the Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley this past weekend. Orgeman bowls in District 9 (Wausau area).

The Bay Area Ice Bears had a dozen more shots on goal than the Central Wisconsin Storm but still came up one goal short in the WIAA state title game March 2. With construction underway on the new Town of Riverview community center, which will include northern offices for some Oconto County departments, the town and county have agreed on a 30-year lease for the property. The town and county boards approved the lease at their respective February meetings. The county set aside $550,000 to cover the construction of its portion of the building in February 2023.

Samantha Routheau, tourism director for the Tourism and Economic Development Corporation of the Oconto Region (TEDCOR), is the the 2024 recipient of the Harold P. Heckendorf Community Service Award presented by NEW Credit Union. TEDCOR is the new name of the former Oconto County Economic Development Corp. Routheau accepted the award from NEW Credit Union’s President Lisa Gilligan at the financial institution’s 62nd annual membership meeting.

It took two years of waiting, thanks to supply chain issues, but the Oconto County Forestry and Parks Department is finally getting its new tandem rear-axle dump truck. Forestry and Parks Director Monty Brink reminded the Oconto County Board of Supervisors on Feb. 22 that it approved the purchase of the truck and dump body in February 2022 for $149,077.

A Keshena man was indicted this week in federal court on two counts of assaulting his domestic partner. Arrelio R. Escalante, 36, allegedly punched and strangled, to the point of being unconscious, a woman with whom he had a domestic relationship with. To the editor: Two of the greatest and most important social institutions in America are the public schools and the church. Most communities in America have a school and a church, usually more than one of each. These institutions have shaped a significant amount of our culture, as our right to worship and our right to an education are cornerstones of the American experience.
