Springborn gets first-ever feature win

The 2024 Shawano Speedway (powered by Auto Select) kicked off the season April 13 with hot racing action and cooler temps than one would like. A total of 106 cars checked into the legendary half-mile to do battle, and fans witnessed a local driver pick up the first feature win of his career. First on the track was the IMCA Modifieds with Jerry Muenster and Lucas Lamberies starting on the front row.

• Judge Katherine Sloma on April 8 sentenced Allan F. Behm, 57, Birnamwood, to 14 years in prison, followed by 10 years of extended supervision, for repeated sexual assault of the same child. A jury found Behm guilty Jan. 17 after a three-day trial. • Joshua A. Behreandt, 41, Tigerton, pleaded no contest Feb. 16 to five counts of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a felony. Matthew Zahringer
Matthew Zahringer, of Antigo, died unexpectedly on April 12, 2024, at his home. He was 42 years old. He was born on Feb. 18, 1982, in Highland Park, Illinois, a son of Laurie (Herman) Tackett of Elton and James Zahringer of Gresham. From the ages of 12-18, Matt was a caddy at a golf course in Highland Park where his grandfather and uncles also worked as young men.

Gresham/Bowler girls win home invite
April 11 CATS Invitational Gresham/Bowler girls won their home CATS Invitational while the boys finished second. The girls scored 95 points, followed by Menominee Indian with 80, Marion with 46, Wolf River Lutheran with 36 and Faith Christian Academy with 30. Menominee Indian won the boys meet with 162 points, followed by Gresham/Bowler with 46, Wolf River Lutheran with 41, Marion with 28 and Faith Christian Academy with 14. Winners on the girls
Lena wins Bonduel golf invite
April 10 Bonduel Invite Lena golfers earned the top score at the Bonduel Invite, carding a 327 to top the home team’s 348.
