The July 10 Daubert hearing in which a witness for the state’s case against Pedro Noriega-Avila was to be present was hastily rescheduled after Shawano-Menominee County District Attorney Greg Parker reported that witness couldn’t fit the court hearing into her busy schedule. With the trial a week away, the hearing was rescheduled for 2 p.m. July 15 in Branch II of the Shawano County Courthouse.

The four members of the Shawano Common Council present July 10 voted to increase the ride fares for City Cab by 50 cents following a public hearing that drew no interest. This is the first time in more than 10 years that the city has upped its fares for in-city service. Regular fares will increase from $4 to $4.50, while senior citizens and disabled residents will pay $3.50 instead of $3. The new rates take effect Aug.

The Shawano County Board of Supervisors is expected to approve a new speed zone for part of County Road D in Tilleda at a meeting July 24. Officials with the Town of Seneca had originally requested a speed reduction from 55 mph to 25 mph on County Road D between Nursery Lane and Hatchery Road.
